If your so called L1 brothers are not helping us by going thru the process.. why the hell do we help them.. Over that, these suckers always try to push us down whenever they get a chance , as they just don't want to and cannot empathize with our situations. People like these are the cause of the most of the trouble that we have everywhere in the world. They should learn, that the whole world follows "How to get in line".

Most of what Hunter has said is not wrong. Exploitation and malpractices by small/big consulting companies is a reality. All of the Indian immigrants know it. Indian workers submit to it because it still is a very good bargain.
But then there are other things that he is simply stereotyping because of personal impact and resulting hatred. Generally implying that foreign workers are crap and cause wage depression isn't true. Wages in IT industry are destined to go down with time because of demand/supply equation. It's nobody's fault that India/China are on the supply side (be it here or there respective countries). Moreover an individual with the will to uproot himself from the other side of the world and come here generally has much stronger zest to make it big than live an average life.
With regard to quality of professionals overall I don't see a marked difference between American and non-American workers. Moreover, I don't think that employers will employ substandard labor just because they are marginally cheap, because it turns out to be more expensive. In all the cases that H1-B and L1 pocket less money than their counterparts the booty goes to middlemen(both Indian and American bodyshps) and not the companies that ultimately use their skills.
What we all need here is a common-sense and honest approach to immigratiion. Also, we must understand that much is driven by forces of capitalism and they are strong enough to find a way, protectionism or no protectionism.

I feel we should have some banners up in different Indian stores, specially targeting some selfish EAD holders, who already feel they got their green cards irrespective of the current visa bulletin
1. Setting up banners will not only attract new members, but will make these EAD holders think from a rational perspective.
2.Also IV administration should send out a personal email to all it members, informing them about the importance of coming together, this way the EAD members who have stopped coming to IV will get the message.
3. We should contact the Indian newspaper editors, to print about our rally on March1st 2009, I believe more awareness we spread a better result we get.

We have written tons of mails but that alone does not work. You need to issue press releases and publish them online. Publishing them each online costs a couple hundred dollars by publishing services who distribute, and there is no guarantee it will be picked up. Thus you need a focussed campaign for it. There are services where you can contact reporters and media on a specific topic and send them email, press release directly. If they are already writing article you can know the deadline. If you have an idea, you can pitch a story idea to the reporter directly. A good service I know costs 5K for non profits for one year. If you need access to International reporters database add 2k to it. All this is possible only if we have these kinds of resources. When we can hardly get contributions of 5k in 4 months after collecting $5 each, it is tough to plan a big media campaign. The reason why other big organizations and big anti immigrant orgs can get so much publicity is that they probably can spend their huge resources on such services. They can also afford a full time staff. We do not have all that and run IV along with our full time day time jobs. So the first thing we need to do before we run any campaign is to get more members and more contributions and monthly signups. Without that ideas may only remain on the forums.

I don't think it will do much good sueing uscis on this issue. The point is, they have the legal authority to be the one interporating the law. So, if there is "gray area" in the law, the law says it is their understanding that matters, not ours or any one else's. So, unless the law very specifically says it must be done in another way, you can not argue uscis did the wrong thing.
Now that we see the immigration law does not very specifically regulate how the flow should be like, so uscis have the authority to "understand the intention of the law" and act accordingly. You can't say you think the law means otherwise and thus sue uscis, because that argument makes no sense to the court. The court will only accept the argument when the government is apparently acting against the law.

Last time I had travelled by British Airways in 2004 and I have made a resoultion for never tavelling with them again. We had a baby 2 years old and he was cranky and my wife asked airhostess to clean the feeder and she refused, saying that 'Mam we don't do this!'. Point is that they don't treat us well even though they get lot of income on routes to India. Also, look at those crappy old planes they deploy on these routes. As someone else said in this thread that it is time for Indian Govt. to wake up and be stiff on such lapses. I am sure they will listen, as they can't afford to lose big bucks coming from India anymore.

We received the snail mail welcome notice today after receiving the email ADIT stuff last Tuesday (August 10). That makes it five business days. On the notice it says that we should receive our permanent resident card within three weeks. Anybody who actually received it within three weeks?
I received it within a week...
CIS sent welcome notice on 8/2, and they sent the cards on 8/9...
But this was early Aug. Now it may take few days more due to many approvals in the pipeline..When you receive another update (like post decision activity) saying that they mailed decision notice, that usually means they mailed the cards...

I am sure you must have thought a lot before the 'foreclosure' came into your mind. Here is an advice. If there is not too much that you will have to put out from your own pocket, then it is better to take the hit and move on.
If you do foreclose, it might not be the best for credit history as well as in some random cases, job search. Jobs usually do a background check and that includes credit check in some cases as well. I hope it has no bearing but in some cases can. I don't think it will have any impact on your GC. Even if you don't have plans to buy a house, there are far more things that can impact. None of us want to live on credit but in US it is almost a necessary evil. Car, credit cards and the other nine yards that come with it also become scarce for the next few years. So, tread carefully.
Have you discussed with your bank? Foreclosure is a huge hit for the bank and they may be able to work with you on what you owe.

There was a thread related to similar issues which I could not find. Apologies for opening a new one.
Doesn't the above constitute discrimination and illegal ? What recourse do we have when we are disqualified because of EAD ?

I dont know about the Govt and bureaucrats and political aides - maybe they have big attention spans - but i know for a fact if someone in a corporate structure receives such a long letter as proposed originally- most would not have the patience to read it. Maybe, the handwritten and personalized part should be:
1. I am XYZ - educated at ABC and work in DEF sector. Been in US legally for XX years - no able to buy a house, progress in career, start my company etc for not having visa certainity.
2. While we wait anxiously for comprehensive reform - the following administrative fixes can speed up the processing backlog, specially for some countries like India, China etc

Highly skilled immigrants have been a key stakeholder in keeping America competitive and your leadership in providing relief to this segment through these fixes would ensure that the best and brightest from around the world continue to be attracted to America.
